Art of Kenneth Gatewood...

Positive images, a return to the past, and the spirit of innocence are the trademarks of watercolor artist Kenneth Gatewood. Although Gatewood's work in enamel and neon offers spectacular testimony to his free flowing versatility and range, it is Gatewood's delicate focus on the innocence and spontaneity of children that provides him with his greatest satisfaction and acclaim. Gatewood's artistic talents were recognized by his family, friends, and teachers when he was young. At the age of six, he drew medical illustrations of the human heart and other internal organs. So detailed and accurate, these illustrations were used as classroom demonstrations by his teachers.

With his "baby sports image" artwork, Gatewood has taken the sports licensing world by storm. In the last year alone, Gatewood became the only artist in the world to be officially licensed with the National Basketball Association, National Football League, National Hockey League and Major League Baseball. During that time, he has released limited edition "baby sports image" lithographs hand signed by sports legends Nolan Ryan, Cal Ripken Jr., Dan Marino, Don Mattingly, and Keyshawn Johnson. In addition, Gatewood's artwork has been featured in SPORT Magazine, Sports Collectors Digest, Trading Cards Magazine, the Encyclopedia of Sports Memorabilia, KABC Channel 7 News and on the nationally syndicated television show, "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air".

Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Gatewood possesses an unyielding commitment to the inner city, and frequently returns to the community to nurture the talents and aspirations of others. His volunteer work with the Los Angeles Unified School District offers guidance and hope to the children of Los Angeles. Gatewood's personal philosophy is simply stated, "It is important to be a role model for children and young adults. I want to emphasize to children the importance of education, respect, and self-expression.

With each delicate stroke, Gatewood empowers the viewer with a visual slice of the human spirit. In doing so, Gatewood captures the spirit within us all.
