Ms. Owens' interest in art began during her early school days. A Detroit born self taught artist, her early influence and mentor was the late Romare Bearden.

Particularly sensitive in capturing those special occasions in the black experience, nationally acclaimed artist Habiba Owens uses the medium of collage to delicately express those moments in time.

Skilled, talented and innovative in the use of collage, Ms. Owens' work is represented in public and institutional collections such as "The Nataki Talibah School, Henry Ford Hospital, First Independence Bank of Detroit, Comerica Bank of Detroit, The Museum of African American History, The Children's Museum of Detroit, Sleepy Hollow Day Care Centers, Chicago's Army and Lou's Award Winning Soul Food Restaurant, Kellogg Foundation and Caesars Palace Las Vegas.

Ms. Owens' creative works have been exhibited both locally and nationally at the Archibald Motley Gallery, The Font Room Gallery, The University of Pennsylvania, The Auto Club of Michigan Gallery, Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, Ford Auditorium, Hart Plaza, Palmer Park, Dearborn Greenfield Village and Museum, Michigan Design Center in Troy, Michigan, the 1986 Michigan Fine Arts Competition, sponsored by the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Association, The Michigan Girl Scout Council and The North American Black Historical Museum of Ontario, Canada.

She has been commissioned by many companies such as Broom Design, Inc. of Detroit for whom she has designed a line of greeting cards. She was also commissioned by Sparrow Recording Company to produce the art for the cover of the Winnans 1992 Christmas Album and Detroit's own Gospel artist Orthea Barnes.
