Sylvia Walker was born in Pasadena, California. After earning a Bachelor's in Fine Arts from the California Institute of Arts, she relocated to Philadelphia in 1981.

Ms. Walker is best known for the images of children she creates in a variety of media. She uses watercolor, pencil, pen-and-ink, and acrylics to create pictures of children in a diverse world. Ms. Walker believes that by presenting a positive image for children, she can help make the world a better place. Ms. Walker has illustrated many children's books, including several punch-out paper doll books.
